There are many systems to choose from in the marketplace. You
hear from just about every cleaner that their method is the best. The fact
is that one should not choose a carpet cleaner based on a cleaning method
alone. A consumer could get a good job or a poor job with any system.
The system must be applied properly in order to be effective. So the emphasis
should be placed on the reputation and experience of the company. Here
at Allstate, we may use from one to five different systems on one
assignment to get your carpets squeaky clean and looking new when
dealing with different textile surfaces.
When it comes to maintaining your carpet, one of the most critical areas
of focus is the traffic areas. If ground in soil is not removed on a regular
basis, the traffic areas will begin to wear excessively. Here’s a good
analogy. Soil contains a good amount of sand. And glass is made out
of sand. Then add your foot pressure which is about 800 pounds per
square inch. So when you start to grind in soil with constant
foot traffic, your carpet fibers become abraded and they start to ”ugly
out”. The truth is, carpets that are not maintained properly
hardly ever wear out. However, they always “ugly out”. If you look
at poorly maintained carpeting under a microscope, many times you’ll
find the fibers are pitted and they have a scratched appearance. That scratched
appearance is similar to taking a clear piece of clear plastic and
rubbing it with sandpaper. After a while, the plastic is so scratched
that you can’t see through it . When your carpet fibers become scratched,
they stop reflecting light and have a dull, gray appearance. By not
having your carpets professionally maintained, you could void your carpet
warranty, experience rapid re-soiling, create permanent stains that can’t
be removed, damage your carpet fibers and shorten the life of your carpet.
Your residential carpets should be vacuumed at least twice a week and
commercial carpets should be vacuumed daily. In our opinion, the
best vacuums are quality uprights that have rotating beater bars and powerful
motors. However, keep in mind that vacuuming is no substitute for professional
cleaning. No matter how much you vacuum, you will only remove about 50%
of the dry particulate soil in your carpet. And in most cases, a
carpet can hide it’s own weight in soil. So the rest of the soil must be
removed by expert cleaning.
